Globetrotter axes 100 jobs according to newspaper

The Hamburger Abendblatt, a local newspaper, has quoted Andreas Bartmann, Executive Partner at Globetrotter Ausrüstung, the German specialty outdoor retailer, saying the company had to cut 100 jobs on the grounds of minimizing costs – particularly on the mail order side of the business. Further staff cuts are not out of the question at this stage. The measures were necessary given the immense pressure from cheaper competition online. Total sales for the financial year, ending Feb. 28th, are projected to be €245 million, 1 percent down compared to the previous year. It is said that the share of online sales have dropped significantly from 40 percent to about 33 percent recently.
