First half of 2014 shows most large retailers are doing fine

Over the past few days, some financial results for larger vendors and retailers have been published for the first half of 2014. Here is an overview of performance figures for the first six months – see graph below.

Accell Group to spin off fitness division

The flat sales for large Dutch bicycle manufacturer, the Accell Group, were mainly caused by the disposal of Hercules, the German bike brand. Last week, the group announced that it was going to divest more and to sell its fitness unit under the Tunturi flag. As of Aug. 1st, Tunturi will go to unnamed investors, and will be under the directorship of Tunturi New Fitness BV, a separate company based in Almere, the Netherlands, where Accell is also based.

Accell says that its fitness operations have become too small with annual sales at €18 million. Tunturi New Fitness BV will continue to sell directly in the Benelux countries and Germany, and will serves 30 markets through local distributors. Accell remains the distribution partner for the Nordic countries through its Finnish subsidiary, Tunturi Hellberg Oy.
