Kering supports Slater as Outerknown brand launches

Not giving much away: one of the few images on Slater’s Outerknown website.

Back in April, not much was known about Kelly Slater’s future plans. The multiple surf world champion had just ended his endorsement by Quiksilver after 24 years. It was said that he planned  to launch his own brand of sports apparel that the big French Kering group was willing to assist with sourcing, e-commerce and back office support. Kering controls a wide range of lifestyle and luxury labels including sports brands Puma, Volcom, Electric, Cobra Golf and Tretorn.

The website of the new project – called Outerknown – gives little away about the product range said to hit retail in fall 2015. A few details have been leaked over the past few days, however, of Outerknown’s sustainable approach, which will be a result of the partnership between Slater and the brand’s co-founder John Moore, a designer who used to work for Quiksilver, among others.
