El Corte Inglés, Spain’s large department store chain and the second largest sporting goods retailer in the country, is supporting the non-governmental organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in its fight against Ebola. Both customers and employees have the opportunity to donate money in the group’s on-street stores and its affiliated food retail banners. At the same time, MSF will be present at outlets to provide information about their work, Ebola in general and the situation in western Africa.
Awareness of Ebola is particularly high in Spain. It is the first – and so far only – country in Europe and the West where a person has been infected by the disease without having been to one of the African countries affected by the epidemic. The woman, a nurse working in a Madrid hospital, survived the illness.
