According to Werner Haizmann, president of the respective sporting goods retail federations in Germany and Europe, VDS and Fedas, the German market grew in 2014 by 1.5 percent to slightly more than €7.3 billion in retail sales including VAT. While the weather in Germany was unfavorable throughout the year, the VDS president listed other challenges for the future during yesterday’s press conference at ISPO MUNICH.
Haizmann estimates that the total market share of specialty on-street retailers is around 45 percent – and sees that they are holding their position in regard to competition from online shops and vendors themselves. He mentioned notably the example of Adidas, a company which currently runs, according to Haizmann’s information, no less than 50 web shops serving more than 25 countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
