TaylorMade, the California-based golf division of Adidas, gets a new chief executive who is quite familiar with the company. David Abeles will replace Ben Sharpe. Sharpe is said to leave the company at his own request for personal reasons. Abeles had already served TaylorMade for 12 years before he quit, in 2013, to steer Competitor Group, an American organizer of running events.
Besides Sharpe’s personal reasons, TaylorMade has not been in great shape recently. The golf company has been facing structural problems in the Green Sport, where declining participation has not been helped by sluggish retail prices and margins.
