Thomas Lipke, employee of Hamburg-based outdoor retailer Globetrotter Ausrüstung and its co-managing director since 1991, will step down from his role by the end of this year. He has already left his position as chief operating officer of Frilufts Retail Europe, the holding company which controls Globetrotter as well as its respective Swedish and Finnish counterparts, Naturkompaniet and Partioaitta.
Lipke said that it was the right moment for a change, both for him and the company. Back in June, Fenix Outdoor, the group behind brands including Fjällräven, Hanwag, Primus, Tierra and Brunton, which had already controlled the majority of Frilufts Retail Europe, acquired all shares in the retail alliance. In return, it sold its 25 percent stake in Transa Backpacking, the large Swiss outdoor chain, to a new combination of owners led by Scott’s Beat Zaugg and his investment firm International Retail Corporation.
