Last week, we reported on the market leadership of Adidas in India. According to a report by FashionUnited, the German group wants to increase its single brand stores in the country (including Reebok ones) from 760 at present, to 1,000 by 2020. Apparently, this will be focused to a certain extent on the metropolitan areas of Bangalore and Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Adidas has applied to the Indian government to establish its own retail business, which would be 100% controlled by the Herzogenaurach-based company. To date, there are restrictions on direct investment in Indian retail. While the Three Stripes aims to continue its collaboration with local franchise partners, the report indicates that the group intends to run larger selling spaces, around 500 square meters, itself.
It is said there are plans to introduce what is known as the ‘HomeCourt’ retail format which was launched in China, the U.S., the U.K. and the Middle East last year, to India as well.
