Alibaba, China’s e-commerce behemoth seems to be getting serious about building operational structures in Europe. The group has named Amee Chande, a former Wal-Mart manager, to run its office in London. The operations in Milan, Italy, will be directed by Rodrigo Cipriani Foresio who formerly ran the Italian online food shop Buonitalia.

The two new managers are said to work in both directions. They were hired to help small medium-sized businesses from Europe to penetrate the Chinese market through Alibaba. In return, they are expected to ease market entry in Europe for companies from China.

The appointments coincided with Jack Ma becoming special adviser to David Cameron, the U.K.’s Prime Minister, to help British companies to make it into China.
